30th Nov./19.                                                                                                                                                    Paris

Dear Pere,

I cannot write a long letter this weekend as Charles has been here yesterday & today.

I found your card down at the Office this morning, thanks. We thought of catching the 10AM train on the Wednesday landing us in London from 6.to 7.PM., & returning on the Monday following by the 8AM train from Charing X.

Last Sunday afternoon I accepted an invitation from some of the V. girls & attended a Sunday afternoon concert at 22, Rue de Naples. Seldom have I enjoyed a party so much. I did nothing but listen & speak with one or two girls near me. But the violin solos, the recitations, the songs, & above all the atmosphere of charming French culture & social elan, were truly beautiful. Carl Johnson & I & one French chap were for most of the time the only representatives of our sex in a room of some sixty or seventy girls.

Tuesday evening I stayed in & read the previous Fridays’ “Nation”, after going to bed read “La Dame aux camelia’s.

Wednesday I went to my Professor.

Thursday a great “Thanksgiving” Dinner was given at our rooms at the Rue de Sevres to all the numbers of the mission in Paris. I think 65 attended-owing to so many transients being in Paris on their way to America. This day –last Thursday in November – commemorates the landing from the Mayflower-& when they eat turkey. They had five turkeys, but I refrained.

Friday I went up to the Gare de l’Est expecting to meet Charles, but as he did not come I returned & went to my Professor for a short time.

Saturday morning Charles turned up to Breakfast, having travelling all night .

In the afternoon we walked through to the Bois de Boulogne & climbed to the Fort of Sunines. In the evening we went for a walk round Clichy & Pigali, & saw from the outside, the famous “Le Ciel” & “L’Enfer”, two fanciful Cafes representing Heaven & Hell.

This morning we cycled up to near Sacre Coeur & back.

This afternoon Charles & I are going to the V. “Concert”again, I trust we shall be welcome although we have had no specific invitation.

     Yrs. Affectionately,

      Don
