Possibly name comes from a J Marshall who left a will in 1752 to various Lugars as nieces and nephews as well as a Mary Jacobs sister. However, I have not been able to find any Marshall - Lugar/Jacobs marriages so cannot trace this further — in Essex beneficiaries index.

Possibly married Mary Mapes in 1811 Westminster, although it could also have been his son Marshall

Possibly married Amy Skoulding on 20th Oct 1813 in Halesworth, Suffolk — where his parents married and presumably his mother’s birth place so most likely family connections make this seem likely but insufficient evidence to be definite.

There is also record of a Rev. James Lugar, in Demerara (Caribbean), as member of the Society for the Conversion, &c. of Negro Slaves in 1825 and 1826. Cannot be certain this is him.

Marriage record in 3rd Nov 1824, Ardleigh, Essex with Sarah Freeman Cooper. His marriage 6 years later to Sarah Jaggard shows him as a widow.

He had a brother Phillip, born 1789. 1871 census shows Robert’s daughter Emily Jane as neice of Phillip. Phillip was a surgeon and convicted aged 79 for shooting at somebody and died 13th Nov 1878 age 89.

Baptism record on FMP has his father as Robt, but IGI have him as Maughnel and I tend to believe the latter as I can find no other record of a Robert and Sarah at that time. Neither one has an image, unfortunately — so only this would confirm.
