John Tappin

Named on Mary Holmes marriage and christening records. Was a Tilemaker according to christening record and lived in Bellisle Fields

Stephen died at Adam’s Tile Kilns at the age of 77 according to attached burial record kindly sent to me. 

“… until Islington was completely built up, kilns were a common sight, as building plots were used first for brickburning. (fn. 2) In addition to temporary brickburning, two tilemaking firms were long established in Maiden Lane. Adams's tilekilns or a predecessor was at Belle Isle by 1810, making garden and chimney pots…” British History Online

Possible other daughters, Mary and Elizabeth born 1814 and 1816 - on Ancestry, to be checked out, also a Thomas Tappin in 1811 but Stamford Hill.

If his middle names are correct, he married in 1894 to either Annie Halsey or Margaret Fugler. Need census info to confirm.

Also married in 1903 to Ethel Fanny Faulkner.

Set sail to Quebec in 1908 with family. In Durham, Ontario, 1911 census of Canada, miss-spelt surname as Foneylone.

Possibly married Sarah A. M. Hood in 1912, Pancras. She was possibly Sarah Ann M Hood, born 1884 in Malling. If so they may have had a number of children born in Hendon: Dorothy R (1915), Lilian E (1917), Thomas E (1918), Edward S (1920), Kathleen E and Ruth E (twins? 1924)

Married Edith Rachel Goodeve, b 2nd May 1891, in 1916 Romford. Travelled 1st class on board the Venus still with his wife to Madeira in 1956. At the time he lived in Hove, Sussex. No record of any chidren

He and his father were tile makers at time of his marriage in 1872 and was described as a brickmaker in censuses.

Harold was a fireman in the merchant navy, 1918-21 - see attached image, from FMP.

His middle name is referred to in the marriage record of William Charles Tappin to Hannah Barnes in 1907.

The 1911 census has Anne and Charles married for 31 years, which puts the year at 1880, but I can find no such marriage on record, although there is a possible match in 1892. Comparing the 1881 and 1891 census returns, it seems certain that Anne was previously married to somebody called Loftin. The only match I could find for this was a marriage between Ann Dickery and Robert William Loftin in 1868 Lambeth. However, I can find no census record of this Robert. The number of children born/died is also a mystery with 5 of seven dead by 1911. Does this include the Loftin children? If so Robert at least seemed to still be alive at this time and there were five Loftin children and three Tappins, which adds up to 8. Edith appears as Loftin in 1881 and Tappin in 1891, I believe. Can also find no record for birth of Ellen Loftin. Notably in 1881, the Loftins and the Tappins all live at 60 Frederick St.

Ann Dickery (seems to be mis-written as Dickey on marriage certificate)'s father John Dickery was a Tailor according to marriage certificate.

The Reverend Josiah Pratt, signed Ann Dickery’s christening record, was mentioned in a totally different part of my family tree in the will of Peter Guillebaud.

Married Ernest Seabrook in 1902 Islington. It appears he died aged 28 in 1907 Islington, but could not trace her in 1911. According to census return for 42 Blundell Street either she or her brother George died before 1911 as only 2 of 7 survived until 1911, and William is clearly visible. There was a death record that seemed to match George, but none that matched Edith so I assume she was the survivor.

There seems to be some link with a Charles William Loftin, who witnessed her marriage along with a Beatrice Figg. Christmas day Five years earlier, she was witness to his marriage to Emily Mary Peggram. Both at the same parish church of St Clements, Barnsbury.

In 1887 at time of her marriage she lived at 8 Church Street, next door to herfuture husband Alfred at 6. He was a gas maker and his father a jar maker. Her father Henry was a smith
